My Grandma, Guiseppina Alessio, came to America from Palermo in 1919. I remember her laughing eyes and her love for life. Grandma would cook for us on Sundays and her spaghetti sauce was my favorite.

One day I eagerly asked, "Grandma, will you teach me how to make your sauce?" With great pride and joy she gently taught me. As the years went by, my beloved father, Angelo was there to continue to guide me in carefully learning the secret for the blending of the fresh herbs and spices.

I now would like to share my family's authentic sauce with you.

Ingredients: Crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, tomato paste, imported olive oil, sugar, sweet onions, fresh parsley, oregano, fresh garlic, basil, salt, hot pepper sauce, garlic powder, black pepper.

As you can see I am very proud of this recipe. All of the ingredients are very healthy, as they are all fresh. They include: 100% imported olive oil and fresh garlic-both are good for your heart; parsley which is high in Vitamin A; sweet onions which lessen the risk of heart attack or strokebecause they reduce the tendency of blood platelets to clot; tomatoes which are a high source of Vitamin C and is an antioxidant; and fresh herbs that are all beneficial to your health.
